TOP HATS AND TAILS (3-5)
Inspired by famous leading men Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, Top Hats and Tails is an age specific 45 minute all-boys dance class containing tap, jazz and hip-hop movement. Geared toward a young boys’ active and physical nature, the purpose of the class is to introduce young male dancers to the three styles of dance through movements like jumping, turning, and kicking.
FIRE IT UP FITNESS (18+)
No dance experience necessary for adults to experience the heat of dance fitness to music from multiple genres and decades…
Country and Western
…and of course the most current pop music!
BALLET BOOTY (18+)
Ballet inspired workouts, learn to stretch and strengthen like a ballerina in this fun, adult only class. This class will help develop lean muscle mass while improving your balance, flexibility, and range of motion. It will work your feet, butt, legs, core, and arms for a full body ballet experience.
This program follows the Al Gilbert syllabus. This toe-tapping syllabus will teach you all the techniques you will need to make music with your feet. Plus, who doesn’t like to make a little noise?
CREATIVE MOVEMENT (3+)
This joyful and creative class helps stimulate your child’s imagination and enhances balance, flexibility and motor skills. They will explore movement through music while developing rhythm and coordination
This fun filled class is an extension of Creative Movement. The children are now ready for more coordinated combinations of steps and movements. Our focus is to increase body awareness, technique and memory. More emphasis is placed on tempo and musical timing. Children begin to learn the basic movements for ballet and jazz. The concepts will prepare students for the following year when they graduate to Pre-Primary Ballet and Jr. Ballet/Jazz.
This program follows the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance. It provides students with a high standard of training as well as helping to build strong self-esteem and confidence. The program focuses on the study of classical technique through barre and center exercises, as well as rhythm and free movement dance. It is designed to instil a love and appreciation of dance.
POINTE CONDITIONING (12+)
This class is for students interested in going en Pointe. In this class we will focus on strengthening the dancers feet, ankles, turnout, and core strength. It will prepare the dancers for the work that is needed when going en Pointe.
Pointe is run similarly to other ballet classes in terms of focus and discipline. This class is for the more advanced ballet dancer and requires an additional ballet class and ballet technique class, as well as faculty permission in order to participate. As our young dancers grow, we emphasize the importance of making decisions that will ensure our dancers’ future health.
Jazz dance is rooted from both African American and Caribbean traditional dance. It can be either fast paced and energetic, or smooth and graceful. Today’s jazz influences other dance techniques including contemporary, musical theatre and hip hop. Jazz dancers benefit greatly from a working knowledge of ballet technique and core strengthening.
This is a dance style that blends ballet and jazz dance. It is generally smoother and a bit faster than ballet, but not quite as fast as jazz. A lyrical dancer uses movement to express strong emotions such as love, joy and anger.
Lyrical dancers usually perform to music with lyrics and the lyrics of the chosen song serve as inspiration for movements and expressions. Music used for lyrical is typically emotionally charged and expressive and may consist of many genres including pop, rock and hip hop. Powerful, expressive songs are often used in lyrical dance to give dancers a chance to express a range of strong emotions through their dancing.
HIP HOP (6+)
Hip Hop is an urban ethnic dance form that marked its beginning as part of the hip hop culture in the early 1900’s, when the youth in and around Bronx, New York started dancing on the streets. It is an ideal way to express one’s creativeness. It features self-impressions and the dances come from the soul. There is breaking, popping, locking, and free styling in hip hop dances, moves which were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States. A great dance style to improve flexibility, develop balance and muscle coordination.
A dance form developed in the early 20th century as a rebellion against the rigid constraints of traditional ballet including the technique itself, as well as the costumes and shoes. Quite literally, early feminists tore off their corsets and stiff shoes to allow for less constricted movement.
Although Modern has a strong ballet base, it is a more relaxed, free style of dance using emotions and moods. Using the expressive floor work of Martha Graham and swing standing work of Jose Limon this class fosters strength, flexibility, and creative expression. Improvisation and choreography will also be explored to develop individual style and performance quality.
The exploration of the total movement potential of the body. It differs from commercial or competitive dance in that it is not bound by set standards, as well as defined styles such as ballet or Jazz dance. Instead, it seeks to express a personalized vision, often through experimentation and collaboration for the development of new, more individualized approaches to the moving body and choreographic possibilities.
MUSICAL THEATRE (6+)
This discipline is a combination of acting and dancing. This class is based on jazz technique and is influenced by the showmanship of Broadway and movie Musicals. This class is movement and musicality based, singing is not a component.
